I can tell you a story about that. I met a guy who worked in the frauds division for the state of Florida. He told me about an illegal who worked for a lawn services company. He made an offer on a house that had a price of $600K. He then got an appraisal for $800k. Countrywide gave him a $800K mortgage. He paid the owner $600k and planned to pocket the $200K and default on the loan. The man telling me this said he explained it to a VP at countrywide. She ask him how he knew about this. He said the guy had confessed and was in jail. He was amazed at how inept countrywide was.
