J_b,

you said "congresspeople might do the right thing, even if they lose their jobs".....you have more faith in the nobility of today's congress than I do. Too many of them are multiple term representatives who enjoy the many perks and would never NOT consider the political consequences of their actions.

The phrase "morality in America" in your last post brings to my mind the thought that "there are sins, and there are SINS."

While on Larry King recently one of Pres. Clinton's staunchest supporters was asked how she could still claim he should stay in the job even after he's lied to her(& the country) about the tryst with Monica. Her answer was that she in no way could condone his actions but the fact that he fights for important human causes in a fiscally responsible way enables her to believe his goals as Pres. far outweigh his sexual misconduct.

I believe it's a greater immorality to protect only the financial assets of a nation & ignore the human needs. IMO that's why the majority of the American people still support the President.

Thanks for the calm discussion -- it's been a pleasure.

Ann
