Thank you for that article. I think the thing that bothered me initially was the small number of machines sold - 350,000 or so this far. The reason I think DIVX would fail is that the "renting forever" model. Does not seem appealing to me. Yet those tiny DVD sales numbers after this much time still seems a bit disturbing to me (in spite of that 30,000 comparison in the article, expectations were high and we should be doing better - maybe it is the lack of standards or worse the lack of recording ability which is a bit more telling.)

Any way I like the lack of support for DIVX - but I will continue to see how the product is accepted. Hopefully it will fall flat or be a niche product. The part that bothers me is that those DIVX players can play both DVD and DIVX. So in spite of a greater initial price for the players, it may be accepted but hopefully for a more niche market.
