KLP asked 2 questions. The first was, "Why don't the Congressional Democrats AND the Republicans talk about their benefits???"

You ignored her main point when you wrote, "that program is the federal worker version of the 401K. It's not something over and above what non-government workers in the private sector get. It's just a 401K (which we were very late to get, BTW). Federal workers are now also covered by SS, too, just like everyone else. The comparability you're looking for is already there."

You are either uninformed about the government retirement programs or have a warped view of private sector retirement plans.

Your comment does not describe the Congressional and government retirement program.
Not even close.
And there was no tardiness.
The government employee retirement plan has always been extremely generous and still is. What really happened to this generation of government and congressional workers is they were provided an opportunity for second and third and fourth and fifth and sixth retirement checks.

Govt employees used to get their very generous retirement benefits based on rank and years service "check 1". That was changed to include them in Social Security "check 2"...but the first benefit continued too. What happened is they were given an additional monthly check.
Then your so-called 401k plan...aka "thrift savings accounts" were added "Check 3". They add a third check to government employees retirement plans.

And even that is not all for all of them. Some government retirees (a significant number) also collect military retirement checks "check 4" and (a recent change) VA pension checks "check 5". And of course, they can also have an IRA "check 6".

That means many government workers have up to six sources of retirement income, all of it government funded and/or subsidized. The president did not get into all that detail, but many of us are aware of the system government employees would like to hide.

Karen was pointing out the nature of the beast and questioning the inequities in the congress persons and employees personal retirement accounts as compared to the average working American. The inequities most certainly exist.

Heck within a few months I'll be getting military retirement, VA pension, SS, and IRA checks and of course my personal investment accounts. I would willingly give up some of that Govt money, if the cuts were across the board and equitable and designed to address the greater good of America.
Try to find a government leach willing to do that.

Once again you chose to obfuscate and criticize for no reason.

I saw the same tactic used on LB is an earlier post. I thought then, well she just dislikes men. I was glad to see you are willing to find faults, even non-existent ones, with women too.
LOL
