Looks like this movement will get rooted in the Northeast and become accepted custom there. From there, the media concept of gay marriage will slowly seep out in TV show plots, celebrity gay marriages, etc. Then the younger generation around the rest of the country will weigh in and probably increase their current high 50's approval, leaving any politician in a blue or swing district with a tough choice, if they want to cling to the past on this issue.

A few more legislatures will follow the first brave ones, California will dump Prop 8 in a few years, and off we go from there. Don't ask/don't tell will be gone soon too.

And once it is settled as an accepted constitutional principle of equal protection, there will never be a reversal. The folks who enjoy de jure discrimination against gays, live it up while you can. The party will end soon.
