Many see the danger of the Supremes ruining their reputation. washingtonpost.com Heck, the Florida Supreme court practactly ignored them. That's most likely why they granted the stay. There were no merit to the stay but the Floridians pulled back the curtain to show the wizard(s) and they were looking particulary human at this point. The country is short on legitimacy at the moment and things are only getting worse. TP
