As usual, thank you. Since my investing gives priority to wireless and fiber, I try to keep up on both as best I can as someone who (despite his protestations) Mike Doyle can run rings around as a techie (and besides he is now due to be an MIT prof., no)? So your careful and clear analysis re 3rd generation CDMA is invaluable to this observer. Re smart radios, was just trying to see if George Gilder's prediction in that area (thinks Tellabs is on to something with the Steinbracher (Sp?) group TLAB picked up over a year ago) and wondered if you or any of the tech wiz's here thought this might bear any fruit. The idea is George's not mine, BTW and I probably mischaracterized what a smart or software radio really can do - and can't do. Accept your point that CDMA in particular is an unlikely (and probably impossible) candidate for such stuff. Of note of course is that Tellabs is a major partner of Ericy outside the US. Often Tellabs installs infrastucture in 3rd world in conjunction with Ericy. So maybe Ericy is the one who needs "smart radio" technology. :-) Also thanks re CDMA on wire observation. Interesting that Cisco picked up the Sanders group working on spread spectrum wire line technology and then bought a chuck of the private company Terayon which has been in the forefront of it. Seems like Cisco thinks there may be gold in them thar hills re this. Will be fun to watch. With all the Q has on its plate the last thing it needs is wire stuff probably, but still wonder now and then since its e mail expertise is very real and continues to win prizes. Again thanks. Chaz
