Beeb bias example of the night.
The BBC World Service has an setup whereby every night they decide that 3 headlines are the "top headlines" for the night. That's fine, but what gets annoying is that they repeat these headlines every 10 minutes or so for two hours. By the 5th repeat, you begin muttering back to the radio, "will you shut up already?".
So, these "top headlines" must be carefully selected to represent the night's top world news, right?
Tonight, one of the headlines was "International observer impressed by Palestinian plans for economic development after Gaza pullout"
I kid you not. Now I don't blame the diplomat (I forget who) for saying nice things to the reporter about the plans he was shown. That's his job. But is he or any other presumably sane observer actually going to invest a nickel in these development plans? Of his own money, I mean, not the UN's.
There have been hundreds of well planned and funded economic development plans for PA areas - from the Israelis, the UN, the US, you name it - and very few of them have ever come to fruition because the PA always had other priorities, like running the intifada or engaging in turf warfare. Therefore economic development money had a tendency to be, ahem, diverted to other uses.
But now that the whoever is running Gaza at the moment will have the ex-settlements to take over, they are coming up with some very nice plans to show the nice UN honchoes, each one with a price tag attached I am sure.
But who made "International observer impressed by Palestinian plans for economic development after Gaza pullout" one of the THREE TOP WORLD HEADLINES? And why?
We can guess, can't we.... |
