<<Tell me, when London was under the Blitzkreig, did the city evacuate? Nope. Some did, of course, but the majority stayed and sweated it out in bomb shelters.>>
Actually, before and during the blita, many children were sent to the United States (one of my close friends Chris Archibald, to Philips Exeter Academy) and to Canada. Many others were sent to countryside. There was some dispute about evacutating Princesses Elizabeth and Mary Rose from Buckingham Palace to some safer place. Queen Elizabeth said the princesses would stay with her, and she would stay with the King, "and the King, of course, will never leave." This made monarchy safe for another hundred years in England.
