RUSSIAN FM: WE WILL AID ARAFAT December 6, 2001 The Jerusalem Post reports: “Russian Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov said that Russia will assist Palestinian Authority Chairman Yasser Arafat. ‘President Arafat is an internationally recognized Leader and we will help him out of the current crisis,’ Ivanov told the press yesterday, according to the Palestinian WAFA news agency. ‘The Palestinian Authority behaved wisely when decided on [a] state of emergency,’ he said, and ‘hoped that the Israelis will meet with the Palestinians and stop the assaults and return to the negotiating table,’ Ivanov added. Ivanov earlier said that ‘a military solution in the Middle East is impossible,’ stressing that, ‘the only solution comes with sincere negotiations,’ the statement said…”
