In a holiday-shortened week, stocks took a beating. The Dow Jones industrial average started the week at 11,240.49 and gave up three-digit numbers on Tuesday and Thursday, before shedding an additional 303.68 points Friday or 2.69 percent to end at 10,992.13.

The Standard & Poor's 500 index dropped 2.67 percent Friday, giving up 31.67 points to 1,154.23. The Nasdaq composite index of tech-dominated stocks lost 2.42 percent, 61.15 points, to 2,467.99.

On the New York Stock Exchange, 462 stocks advanced and 2,595 declined on a volume of 4.5 billion shares traded.

In a sign that fear is pushing trades, all 30 Dow components lost ground Friday. kennytroll cant see these lines ???
