Life under a totalitarian regime is life in constant fear, and not a quality life at all. Fear to mention your thoughts in front of your kids, cause they tell everything like it is and they will, in school. Fear that your phone is tapped (and it really was, in many cases). Fear that a black car of the secret police will show up at your door tomorrow and you relocate to remote regions in Siberia, after severe torture and beating and no fair trial... You get the picture. As for the rest of it, the economic troubles - WE WILL SURVIVE. <GGG>
