TeleManagement World

DALLAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 13, 1998--Sun Microsystems, Inc.
and Edge Technologies Inc. today agreed to provide end-to-end network
management solution that brings real-time network status from anywhere
at anytime to the network operators. The solution is based on Sun's
Solstice(tm) Enterprise Manager(tm) software and Edge's N-Vision 3.0
graphical-user interface.
"Coupling Sun's Solstice Enterprise Manager with Edge's N-Vision
is a great way for an enterprise to manage and monitor its information
resource from anywhere at anytime in real-time," said Jack Collins,
director of network management products, Sun Microsystems. "This
integrated, end-to-end network management solution allows network
operators to provide the highest quality of service to the enterprise
through prevention and prompt notification alert of troubles in the
network."
"The Internet is truly the future of network management," said
Laurence Chang, president and CEO of Edge Technologies. "With the
popularity and simplicity of the Internet, network managers can now
add a low cost solution from Edge and Sun that will allow them to more
effectively manage their network without changing their operating
platform and investing in new network architecture."
N-Vision for Solstice Enterprise Management features include a
real-time graphical topology viewer with support for drill-down,
pan/zoom and configuration capabilities, ping, and traceroute.
Operators can view network events using a real-time event viewer with
support for advanced filtering, sorting, and searching capabilities.
Additionally, N-Vision for Solstice Enterprise Manager provides an
SNMP MIB browser.
Edge N-VISION 3.0 does not require any client-side software
maintenance. Multiple users can access the network management system
with greatly reduced CPU, memory and bandwidth utilization. Client
access is achieved regardless of the user's platform. Sun's Solstice
Enterprise Manager can be accessed from a UNIX, Windows 95/NT or Mac
OS platform from any Java software-enabled browser.
