$$$$$ AMERICA ONLINE HITS 15 MILLION CUSTOMERS
AMERICA ONLINE (AOL) which had one million subscribers in 1994, had 15 million this Christmas. About one million have joined since November 12, when it hit the 14 million mark. (This is 23,000 a day. With 68,000 a day logging on worldwide, this is 1/3 of all new subscribers. Pretty powerful.) Christmas day brought in more new customers than ever before in the company's history. Subscriber growth was big due to a major increase in PC sales over the holiday season and the publicity surrounding the movie, “You've Got Mail,” which according to one analyst is ''a billboard for AOL.”
COMMENT: AOL will be added to the S&P 500 Monday, so a surge of buying from the Index funds that must own all 500 companies caused the stock to fly on Thursday again.
Remember when AOL crossed 1 million? August, 1994. So, let's see: A growth factor of 15 times in four years and the addition of advertising and 68,000 new people a day logging on to the Internet. Gorilla? You betcha.
But, is the PE too high? Good question. (We don't have all the answers here at The Bull Market Report. But we hopefully will make you THINK before you jump onto your E-Trade account Monday morning to buy shares!!)
