If Suharto leaves (very unlikely) the recovery will be delayed. There is no succesor apparent, and Indonesia has not known any other form of government for decades. For the sake of an economic recovery, probably in three years we'll see one starting, Suharto has to remain in power. But he must leave after this term ends, together with his friends and relatives. A real cleansing it needed. They have done for decades what the hedge funds are doing now i.e. taken advantage of the uncoordinated masses and amassed fortunes reaped from millions of economically productive people.
