As far as claims that the Athlon is an unstable processor, that's a load of you know what...

- If anything is unstable, it might have been the motherboard the individual was using.

- He/she could have been overclocking the CPU.

Too many variables. Either way, getting an nice solid motherboard like the K7M and a Athlon 700-800Mhz should suit you fine.

The Duron is AMD's cheaper model. Something they can compare the Intel Celeron to. I'd stay away.
