"You don't want to corrupt the military"

You can watch segment 2 "John McCain's Moral Obligation" HERE.

Be sure to visit tomorrow for segment 4 - Linda Foley "How can she be covering the news if she's that out of touch with reality."

My first question for Speaker Gingrich:

Do you believe the military should be used to secure the border with Mexico now, and if not, why not?

Transcript:

Trey Jackson: "This comes on behalf of the readers of World Net Daily. They say they would like to know whether or not you believe the military should be used to secure the border with Mexico now, and if not, why not?"

Newt Gingrich: "I believe we should have as large a border patrol as we need to secure the border. I don't think you should use the military any place that puts it in close contact with civilians or puts it in close contact with money. Because you don't want to corrupt the military. You want the military to remain the defender of the Republic and if you get them too deeply involved in the border, there is a danger of corruption that is very dangerous to the long term future of the military, but I would dramatically increase the size of the border patrol. I would invest in technology to be able to have absolute control of both borders and the coastline and I would have rules that would enable us to control the border."

Note I: Interview conducted Wednesday, June 8 2005.

Note II: The quality of the video was not as good as we had hoped, but please remember, Lance and I are just a couple of working Joe's, not CNN. I hope you enjoy!

Newt Gingrich is well-known as the architect of the “Contract with America ” that led the Republican Party to victory in 1994 by capturing the majority in the U.S. House for the first time in forty years. After he was elected Speaker, he disrupted the status quo by moving power out of Washington and back to the American People. Under his leadership, Congress passed welfare reform, passed the first balanced budget in a generation, and passed the first tax cut in sixteen years. In addition, the Congress restored funding to strengthen our defense and intelligence capabilities, an action later lauded by the bipartisan 9/11 commission.

It is now August 22, 1863. Lincoln and Grant are facing a collapse of political will to continue the fight to preserve the Union. Lee, desperately short of manpower, must conserve his remaining strength while maneuvering for the killing blow that will take Grant’s army out of the fight and, at last, bring a final and complete victory for the South.

New York Times bestselling authors Newt Gingrich and William R. Forstchen conclude their inventive trilogy with this remarkable answer to the great "what if" of the American Civil War: Could the South have indeed won?
