Victory in Viet Nam

I am a Viet Nam Era Vet and as I watch the events in Yogoslavia unfold - I realize that we would have likely won the war in Viet Nam had we used the same tactics employed now by the UN. However - I am very grateful that we did not. If in the early days of the war we were willing to attack the North with bombings of their fuel depots, power facilities, rail, bridges - etc. etc. etc. we would have avoided the mass influx support of Northern troops to the south. We did not because we were unwilling to kill the innocent civilians that would have been victim. Well - Our new hero has gotten us past all that. Now civilian casualties are acceptable as long as we don't fill body bags with US troops. Don't get me wrong - I prefer that approach rather than killing more young soldiers - BUT - we should have never been there - and we are stirring a bees next that could lead to a much wider conflict with many more body bags than Viet Nam had. With Clinton at the helm - surely Korea and China realize that we are not likely to challenge them on anything. They must believe that we won't bomb them and they can surely see that we won't fight a ground war. It was only after far too late that we tried limited bombing of the North. The lesson that I thought we learned was that we should not have entered the conflict. Now after Clinton has done almost as much damage to our National defense as Carter did - the man is out playing with the bees. Is there no end to his stupidity!
