Flashcom is getting some dreadful reviews in the newsgroup comp.dcom.xdsl. Of course, one mostly hears only the horror stories on such a group, but there are some doozies with Flashcom. Be sure to watch your bill if you stick with them. They seem to have special problems with that.
Here are some one examples: "I signed up for 384k service in early May. Thus far, I have received three bills, all for $93.45 charged to my American Express, on 7/7, 7/31 and 8/12. My understanding is that service is $49.95 per month." --- "Not only is service bad, my speeds are kinda crappy too. I ordered 768kbps ADSL from them, and I can't ever get more than 40Kb/s from anywhere, period. I called them, and they said I'm signed up for 384kbps service (I know I signed up for 768)...." --- and another: "In my case, I gave them information over the phone and was never informed about the existance of a Contract, a Terms of Service, or anything. I only found it by poking through their website, and when I read it, I called up (this was back when they had real live people) and screamed bloody murder. They cancelled my order without a fee, apologized (?!!!?!) and I never heard from them again.
They're bad news, and their quasi-legal contracts will never hold up if you dispute the credit card charge." |
