Paul,

Pricewatch has 30 vendors selling 1 GHz Pentium IIIs -

I counted only 28. Did 2 of the 30 run out?

Intel makes 5 times as many processors, and there are 30 vendors selling 1 GHz Piiis. At the same time, there are 63 vendors selling 1 GHz Athlons. What does that tell you?

Another piece of Pricewatch data:
# of vendors:

Piii Athlon
900 MHz 145 69
1 GHz 28 63

That's a pretty sharp drop off. It's an indication that Intel has still not caught up with AMD even at 1 GHz chips (not to mention 1.1 GHz and higher), even though Intel is producing 5 times as many chips.

Do you think that all those parts at all those speeds are available because Intel is having yield problems?

I don't know the exact nature of the problems, but problems clearly exist.

Joe
