Steve,
On comparisons between meself and Krugman, I'm not happy. ;-(
My younger but still middle brother of the three of us knows Krugman, I think I've said this before, rather well. Grad school, similar faculty appts. etc. The general consensus, so says my brother, on Krugman is that he is brilliant; you would not want to be on the other side of an argument with him because he's intellectually swift and argumentatively ruthless; and, finally, you definitely would not want to be stranded on an island with him. Not a nice guy to have over for a beer.
I know none of this personally so I can't vouch for its accuracy. And I must hasten to add that my brother and I differ on kinds of friends we have, on the political role of economics, and on politics in general, though we are both, generally speaking, liberals.
As for looks, ouch. I'm just way more handsome. My wife says so, so it must be true. ;-)
As for the actual policy stuff under discussion, I really don't have views at the moment. I'm swamped with other issues and have not had time to read carefully, let alone think carefully, about the new regulatory stuff. My guess is I will wind up agreeing with Nocera and perhaps sit a bit further to the left. But I haven't done my homework yet. |
