Sure, I agree that rushing surgery would be a bad thing.
Guess the doctor would be the one to talk to about all that, though.
I know that, for example, a mechanic (here in Tucson) who specializes in working on automatic transmissions for a major dealership can do the transmission overhauls in a fraction of the time allowed for as standard, which the overhaul flat rate charges are based upon.

So I would give the doctor the benefit of a doubt and guess that maybe he is just one of the best and fastest surgeons in his field.
I'm glad he spoke out about it. I agree with anyone who would offer the opinion that just because a doctor prays and asks God to help him, the results aren't guaranteed. I've only had surgery once (knee) and I didn't rely on the doctor doing the praying - I prayed about it and trusted God for the outcome. I'm still able to go jogging.
