This sounds to me as though it comes from a source very close to AMD.

Actually not. I have been doing CPU's and performance simulation for years, and based on the information I have gathered, I can project that T-Bird benchmarks will be incrementally better than Athlon.

The L1 hit rate on Athlon is 99%+ for most benchmarks. L2 speed is not going to make a huge difference. 10-15% maximum.
