Firing squad has a t-bird preview up. Here are some clips:

firingsquad.com

So when should we expect the AMD Athlon processor with performance-enhancing cache memory to debut? Actually, AMD is already shipping both aluminum and copper Athlon processors right now to its customers!

MB mystery cleared up:

For instance, at the heart of our test system was an FIC motherboard built for Compaq Computer Corporation. While the system itself was stable during our roughly five hours of testing this by no means give us enough information to determine a final conclusion of the KT133 platforms stability.

On 3dmark:

Yeap, you read it right, the Thunderbird setup broke the 8,000 mark in 3DMark testing! 32-bit performance was a bit less remarkable, but perhaps it can be improved with a different motherboard.

Conclusion:

We've finally seen the initial performance numbers of the Thunderbird core in action and we're impressed.
Once you forget about the inconsistencies between the various KT133 motherboards, (we were told AGP 4X mode works on some motherboards and doesn't in others) and that quirky video problem we ran into involving the reset button (which we hope Compaq and FIC have fixed) the Thunderbird appears to be very competitive with the best processors Intel has to offer.

Benchmarks are give and take...with the Q3 benchmarks a little worse than Sharky's, while others are better. Firing squad conducted their tests at AMD in Sunnyvale. I wonder if AMD refused to send them a sample in retaliation for the Athlon "preview" last summer using an engineering sample. Remember how excited Paul was with those crappy benchmarks!
