Amy,
re: "I am a big believer in Intel investing into the non-IAG today for tomorrow, even if it negatively impacts the short-term."
So am I, emphasis on short term.
re: "However, I think the money applied for the Servers and nw communication groups is money well spent because these are fast growing markets and Intel is showing signs of strengths in them. Investing in these areas today is necessary. For example, if Intel doesn't spend money on proliferating their standards today, there won't be a tomorrow for that group. So, this money is well spent now, for a better future."
I agree here also. I'm just concerned that Intel lost $600 million on $1,693 million revenue in the non-IAG companies. And if these initiatives continue to grow faster than IAG, then their losses can become an increasing drag on the company.
There needs to be an end game where these companies will become profitable, or else get cut loose, sold or closed. As stockholders, we don't have any visibility on how these groups are doing, except collectively.
The success of IAG and flash is hiding some real bad performance. If Intel wants to be the GE of the Internet infrastructure, I think they need some of the same discipline.
John
