Not only is the recalled chip not available, Intel today confirmed that it isn't scheduled for its second coming until Q2 next year. Along with everyone else, we'd believed that the recalled 1.13GHz part would make a reappearance sometime in Q1 2001. A slippage by a further quarter could mean it will never resurface. By that time, P4 will be running at 1.7GHz or more. Will there still be a market for the ill-fated PIII part, or will it simply shuffle quietly onto the train to the Gulag, along with its baby brother Timna? As we've said before, as long as Pentium 4 can be advertised at a clock speed higher than rival chips from AMD, Chipzilla will be happy. The sole raison d'etre of the 1.13GHz Pentium III was to steal AMD's thunder. By Easter 2001, it will have become an irrelevance. $reg;
