RE:"I wonder if Willy will return the favor and free up some fab space for Timna? What's up with Merced any way?"

Willy is a new core and will have it's share of boondoggles but I have to believe that Intel sees Willy (gotta get to Willy) as the savior and has alloted mucho resources in that area. Of course this does not say that this will help make a baby in 1 month using 9 women (TM Jackson).
Not only that but Willy effectively kills Timna as Coppermine becomes the value chip and it scales a lot better than Timna ever will.
Intel should have taken a lesson from the Mhz Sells concept (TM-McMannis) an not used resources to develop a low MHz chip for the low end. If your going to spend the money, spend it on a new high end chip.

I'm starting to wonder if Intel would be better off canning the whole Timna project. Heads would have to roll and maybe we have yet another case of Intel hanging on to a dream too long as those involved attempt to protect their jobs as with RAMBUS...

Merced? Can they get it over 500 MHz?

Jim
