Dilbert,

A bank robbery might be $20-50k and is usually done with no violence whatsoever

What movies do you watch? Also, what world do you live in?

I don't think that movies are a particularly good way to get a reflection of reality - especially movies that deal with bank robbery (for instance Dirty Harry or Buch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid).

I think that your typical bank robbery (if there is such a thing) is a violent crime even if nobody gets hurt. When somebody walks into a and shouts "This is a stick up, everybody hit the floor now, and nobody gets hurt!" (or words to that effect) - it is an act of violence - if someone threaten's me, then they have assaulted me. The only thing in question is the severity of the assault.

Also, the bank loses the money, and makes it up from various chargest to its customers. I agree that it is probably a very small cost to the banks compared to say cheque fraud or bad loans.
