Re: Happy New Millennium by Peter De Jager

This article appeared in the computer trade journal "Reseller Management". Their web site is resellermgmt.com, but the article is only in print.

Highlights:

Budget figures from a handful of companies that have begun to address the problem can put things in perspective: NatWest Bank of the U.K. estimates it will spend œ100M, Barclays Bank of the U.K œ100M, British Telecom œ350M, Bank Montreal $50M CDN, and Telia (Swedish Telephone company) 2.3 billion SEK. The U.S. government estimates the problem between $20 and $30 billion but has chosen, in its infinite wisdom, to allocate only $2.3 billion towards its resolution.

Robin Guenier, director of the Year 2000 Task Force in the U.K., estimates the total cost for the U.K. economy, excluding government costs, to be about œ31 billion...

...Toward the close of 1997, organizations will finally awaken from their stupor and realize they have less than 500 working days remaining.

Self induced panid will set in. That's when the market will change practically overnight...
