Governor Tim Kaine endorsed Illinois Senator Barack Obama's 2008 presidential campaign Sunday as the two stood near the former Confederate Capitol.

With 21 months away, Obama picked up his second gubernatorial endorsement. Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich endorsed the Democrat when he announced his plans to run for president earlier this month.

Obama spoke at a news conference with Kaine outside Virginia's Executive Mansion. The mansion sits about 100 yards from the state Capitol, which is where the Confederate Congress met.

Obama says that for him - as an African-American - to stand in what was the heart of the Confederacy reflects the enormous progress the country has made.
