Interesting 'metrics' Rod ... Netware path lengths are a lot shorter than other systems (hence performance of about 8X NT). Netware was designed initially as a multi-user file and print server, most new functions use the underlying server functions ... effectively reducing complexity.

Windows was designed as a GUI front end for a single user PC OS (DOS) originally ... NT was supposed to replace DOS/WIN, but still is a single user system, NT 5.0 might bring some genuine server design into the OS ... most server functions are 'grafted' onto a single user design, resulting in the security and managability problems now starting to be reported on in the press (oh, don't forget the reliability issues created by 'co-operative' multi-tasking).

OS/2 was designed originally as a multi-tasking, multi-threading single user system to perform as a user interface for MainFrame heritage applications ... server functions were 'added function' later that at least use the underlying system functions to avoid introducing reliability and security issues that Windows is plagued with.

And about the ... openess issues ... looks like a 'red herring' to me, are you saying that DCOM (pre-reqs Windows) is preferable to CORBA (works with everything, including Windows)? Only MSFT wants that!

Can you tell us more about how you decided that Netware is more complicated, unmaintainable, etc ... form what I know of the OS's it seems to more a description of Windows. Are you confused? ... or just trying to make some profits from shorting NOVL by adding FUD based on erroneous information?
