Know who stopped that in CA and went to mandatory withholding? Ronald Reagan. Pissed me off to no end. I've never forgiven him. Quite predictably, taxes have shot up as a result. If it's a bit each week, you don't really realize how big the bite is. If it's one check you have to write once a year, you do.
