NEC Offers HYPERMS-Lite Video-on-Demand System

March 5, 1997 (Japan) -- NEC has announced its new HYPERMS-Lite (Windows NT Version) video-on-demand system for the Internet and intranets. The system is priced moderately to encourage widespread use. It operates with servers using Windows NT 4.0, distributing MPEG2 video data. The client uses Windows 95.

The price varies according to data transmission speed, with set-ups ranging from 500,000 yen (6M-bps) to 4,150,000 yen (96M-bps). Shipments will begin on March 17. NEC will simultaneously open sales of the Encode System (3,000,000 yen) which converts analog data input from video into digital data.
