Crocodile tears
There was a convenient collusion between Taliban and Jihadists, and the Pakistani Govt., which privately encourages terrorism against India and publicly condemns it. The Pakistani Govt. acknowledges the presence of these terrorist outfits on their soil and is not doing anything about it. Calling Vajpayee and offering condolences on the loss of life recently in Kashmir is the height of hypocrisy.
The paki president's cooperation with Americans is not a willing one but is driven by circumstances and geography. The reconfiguration of his Govt. is an indication of the unease the paki president is feeling. It is earnestly wished that civil war would not grip Pakistan. Any civil unrest in Pakistan, which India will not take advantage of, will result in change of administration headed by the erstwhile colleagues. A civil war in an unstable nuclear country will make everybody nervous.
The installation of multi-ethnic Govt. in Afghanistan which is representative of demography is the only way that country can be run. The deposed king can be a unifying factor and will have a limited role to play in the formation of a viable Govt. And return to monarchy is not contemplated.
The food drop speaks for itself in that America has only Afghanistan's interest, and in addition wants eradication of terrorists and return of a non-Taliban civilian administration.
