IMO, NetZero is in trouble once MSN and others get into the same space. Important announcement in the UK: Netscape Internet is AOL's answer to Freeserve ... should give us something interesting to watch.

In the last generation of the 'net, there were more community-oriented things called "freenets". Where are "freenets" now? Of course they've been left behind, technologically speaking, and their 'communities' mostly moved on. Some freenets take donations to keep the lights on.

Of course, Netzero has a lot of customers, and customers are worth something at this juncture. So lucky for them, they may get acquired.

But they're not really offering anything unique, are they?

Then again, the same could be said for the free web hosts (Freeservers) or the free home page services, and the latter account for a huge amount of traffic proudly reported by the portals who acquired them.

Eyeballs are eyeball are eyeballs.... I want to believe that, but...?
