What you call tension is lingering anger and resentment, but the decision was recognized and the matter was considered settled. To me, settled means closure which means no tension.

And was the ruling on same-sex marriage based on her views of individual rights and human dignity instead of the Massachusetts Constitution and state law?

I don't know. I haven't seen any analysis of the Mass constitution and I'm sure not about to look it up. My response to CB was based on what Marshall actually was quoted as saying, not any inferences that one might draw from it in the context of that ruling.
