Not sure that I recommended putting them into an RRSP. I probably said hang on to them, but having had to switch to RIF status, I'm somewhat reserved about the loss of flexibility when the Feds start telling you what you have to take out and when, and demanding progress payments, that may force you to sell when you don't want to.

Personally I have used the depressed state of the market to remove almost everything from the plan at low prices by paying the taxes on the withdrawals.

Takes a bit of thinking about. ITax deferal is not the same as relief, and the changing state of the markets plays a significant part in the whole thing.
