My initial question was related to the comment - "culture can be destiny. and probably much more far-reaching than that" in the context of a post about race,ethnicity and gender with the Math abilities of Mandarin Chinese as an example. If one uses the word culture in a generic non-ethnic fashion to refer to all behavior patterns there is no issue.
