"It's a pig" could apply to 95% of stocks and it didn't take any special insight to know that most net/tech stocks were fundamental "pigs". It only required one to have the capital to weather the insane valuations given and to regularly average up. Few do. Most investors instead chose to ride the trend while ignoring what would normally be condidered poor investing.
In the early 90's, CSCO was one of the first prominent stocks to sport an absurd PE and was called overvalued by nearly every analyst.
Look at that 10 year chart.
How many shorts got burnt on that?
