Our views are shaped by where we live. Where I live there are two systems going on at once and most of the time people can choose which one they want to put their kids in, but not all of the time and that creates problems when they are told they can't join one or the other.

Additionally, in our district people are bussed to keep certain schools from going over a certain percentage of those who receive free lunches--an economic discrimination used in lieu of racial indicators. This is a very contentious issue in the district and the next school board may well end the bussing as there are a slate of people running campaigning for its end.

So I'm all for year round schools if people in a particular district are happy with that--I just don't think it should be mandatory where a large percentage of people don't want it. Despite all the complexity it brings to the mix when you run dual systems.

I personally wouldn't vote for a board that was going to mandate for year round for everyone because of my personal experiences of summer vacations.
