Why America did not befriend India, even though it has been a democratic country for 50 years. I suppose that the following reasons apply:
Things mentioned here have changed a lot for the better, but not to the extent we expect.
1:Primarily because India is a nation of Hindus and a third world country. All the presidents , members of the congress and senate had very rudimentary knowledge of India ,and Hindu religion and their culture They are all familiar with Jewish and Muslim religions because of their common heritage and proximity to Christianity. The schools and colleges were very poor sources of knowledge about India. America is Eurocentric and therefore India is a distant entity in its political and cultural consciousness. 2: India, in order to make an impression on America should have all the modern amenities, and a political philosophy leaning on and in line with America's domestic and foreign policy. America always believes that "a friend of my enemy is my enemy or a friend of my friend is my friend". 3: Before America was exposed to software engineers, doctors, businessmen etc, Indians were regarded as snake charmers, rope tricksters and elephant riders. In the past even a CEO of a company will only think of an Indian as described above. Such colossal ignorance. Nothing worthwhile can exist outside America or Eurocentric context. 4 Color: They can understand Black and White. Any shade in between is hard to understand. Many of them were exposed to Chinese and Japanese. Some of them are so imbued in their own glory that they did not think that somebody worthwhile could exist outside their Eurocentric circle. 5: Noneuropeans were regarded with suspicion, and contempt and could not be trusted. Immigration from third world countries is changing this attitude.
But if it is not for the goodness of many Americans and existing laws, we will not enjoying the freedom we have here. Many immigrants from oppressed countries can attest to it.
