My focus is very narrow (almost strictly investment-related and very little shopping, gaming, etc.) and it's late, so don't expect this to be too profound . . .
I've come to schedule my activities so that I do most of my SI'ing at home (dial-up). In particular, the "View Next 10 Messages" feature has made a profound difference for us dial-up'ers. For the most part, linking from posts, linking to SEC filings (which I am heavy into right now) and linking to historical prices, company profiles, etc. is bearable (graphs are a bit of a problem, though) - everything within the SI site is not too painful speed-wise (not sure I should be saying this, given the content of my post!)
What I mainly reserve for work (DSL) is the search process - SI is only one of the places I get my information, and I crave the ability to get information from the newswires and independent sites. The search function is one of my greatest frustrations, but FWIW, I use Metacrawler and Dogpile (I really appreciate the chronological ordering) almost exclusively now, when beginning a search. So it's the search function, along with streaming audio (Vcall, etc.)
Not the best of feedback, I know, but I'll pm you if something else comes to mind when I'm a little fresher.
While I've got your attention, I'd like to thank you for all your hard work (I'm sure we don't know the half of it) on the New SI - it really is a great improvement and much appreciated. I hope that all the backlash hasn't resulted in any discouragement - you have many supporters out here.
