Bob, I understand what you are saying about the length of posts and not having the time to read them. And I am sympathic to this problem.
If everyone on SI would understand one thing, it would really simplify matters. If you write long, rambling posts, please expect to be misunderstood. Most people just scan long posts, or pick out one sentence to respond to, missing the entire point you were trying to make, or just skip over them entirely.
If everyone could figure out how to make their point in a few sentences or one or two paragraphs, I think you would be amazed how much the communication level would increase here. Except, in special circumstances, where longer text is necessary to make a point.
I used to have an old professor who had a favourite saying, "When the bum gets numb, the brain don't hum" At the time, we used to laugh at him, but he always kept his lectures short and we always remembered the topics he lectured on, when exams were passed around.
Also, paragraphs, periods, commas, you know, all that good stuff, greatly aid the reader in their understanding. hehehe
