Case in point. My wife recently broke her wrist in a fall. Simple, right? It turned out to be a $100,000.00 trip.

At the anecdotal level, my wife had the very opposite experience. She fell and broke her arm at the shoulder level. Treatment was terrific, physical therapy was terrific, and costs were not terribly unreasonable. No doctor; no physical therapists mentioned any thing about fear of lawsuits.

Someone needs to do some serious work separating political hype from the realities. I've seen the same numbers someone else posted here about the low amount of costs due to successful suits. We need, of course, to recognize those are not all the costs.

But I've not seen serious data that addresses that.
