Tim, Thanks..BUT....
I still do not understand. I guess we just look at things differently (quite an understatement huh?? :-).
What about the fact that the same owner ( wait, don't the stockholders own camelot?)or at any rate the operations executive, that you talk about has not one business success in his past. An investment banker that never does anything but make bad investments, run companies into the ground, and loses money on a consistent basis can certainly not be considered to be an asset. When industry looks for capable CEOs they look for those with high levels of success in their backgrounds. You know, records of achievement. Like having been the chief executive of a successful corporation. It is readily apparent that this sort of background is not provable in the case of Danny. In fact a trail of ruin has followed him everywhere he has been. The errors of judgement have continued with Camelot. Huge errors have been made in marketing and public relations. Not originally allowing downloads and demos from the net come immediately to mind. Releasing a product that just did not work properly is another. These kinds of mistakes have cost Camelot dearly in terms of bad publicity and hence credibility.
It is just lack of credibility based on history that makes me wonder how it is that anyone could think that the new versions of any software will either be delivered in a timely manner, or that they will be competitive once they are (IF indeed they ever are) available! In my view it makes no sense to just assume that things will be OK when there is nothing at all to give support to this assumption!
It seems as though your analysis has deliberately avoided the consideration of the preponderance of the evidence. This is the perplexing part. I really cannot understand anyone reamaining so bullish on anything when every shred of data is so completely contrary. So the question is really not to ask you to reitterate things you have already said (these things made little sense the first time you said them when considering the realities), but to ask you why you think about Camelot in such an unfailingly positive manner in the face of historical facts that are entirely negative.
The internet telephony race is definitely underway Tim. There are millions of dollars per month changing hands right now...today. The companies that create a following now, the ones with name recognition, the ones that maintain credibility today in the developing market, will most certainly have some advantage. The Organizations that can sell enough to support themselves (or have a big enough corporation paying the bills), the ones that have a cohesive development team and hence are able to stay in the forefront of the technology will definitely have a superior chance of being there when things shake out. If one consults the record they will notice that Camelot does not seem to be able to claim to be a success in any of these areas.
This might be the first heat of the race, but those that do not make it here will not be in the finals.
As to Intel Iphone. I have limited experince with it. I have only completed about 60 contacts amounting to perhaps 4 hours of connect time. As seems to be the pattern, I have significantly different impressions than yours. I have had some problems with the directory, though these seem to be fixed in the most recent version (Video 1.0 beta). The sound is really very good. It may not be quite as good as the very best connections with one of the Truespeech coders, but it is more consistent and it is certainly far superior to any audio Digiphone can produce. The echo cancellation feature works well and it handles lost packets as well as any save Freetel. The truly unique aspect of this software is the video. It is the only software that I have used that can maintain 5 to 6 frames of video from a parallel port camera even when transmitting audio packets. It is also currently available free of charge!!
I would think that you would like the interface...it is the closest to the stark bare bones Digiphone interface that I have found. It is however, much more intuitive and contemporary looking!
When you have time to reflect perhaps you might do me the favor of letting me know why you feel it is appropriate to ignore all available information when you express your positive outlook about Camelot. |
