Since I am the one who came up with the possibility of NRID going into the box, I will gladly debate with you why I think that it is a good fit for SUN/Oracle. This is not the place. I will transfer your message to the NRID site. I do feel that you are quite myopic in focusing only on fingerprint verification, and also this preoccupation with an API. First, the "box" will be sold on price and convenience. A $99 scanner, will not contribute to keeping the price down. Second of all neither of us know enough about API's to say whether or not SAFlink software will be useful. NRI just has to write to JAVA and Oracle specifications, they will probably be using proprietary Software which will most likely be UNMicrosoft. Thus the inclusion of a voice/sound card would be much cheaper than your scanner. Keyboards cost $10 or less without scanners, and Allowing users to have sound like a regular PC will make the NetPC much more sellable.
I don't know if SAF will be in the box. I hope that someone from SUN or Oracle will recognize the logic of my arguments, however.
See you over at SI-NRID, if you care to debate.
Regards,
Sheldon
