It would'nt be a male first lady; it would be a male first man. As for whether voters would elect a openly gay person for President, you might be surprised. Those who are repulsed by homesexuality largely vote Republican and despise most Dems.
In this day and age, there are a number of football players who have come out of the closet. In terms of the hardcore Dem blue states, such as CA, NY, MA, to name a few, it would make no difference.
