USA today on Investors Pain:

<<Consider Bob Ziegelbauer, 49, a small-business owner in Manitowoc, Wis. Even though his portfolio is split between stocks and fixed-income investments — 70% stocks and 30% bonds and certificates of deposit — he crossed into the red this month. Ziegelbauer has lost about $10,000, or about 5%, from a year ago. Earlier this spring, he was sporting a 20% gain.

The hit on the bottom line, he says, is causing him to spend less freely. This time last year, he bought a new car and computer equipment for his business, Dr. Freud's Records and Tapes. Now, he says, he's "feeling a little bit pinched watching what's happened to some of my savings over the last three months or so.">>
