I would like to try something a little different on this thread. All thread readers are invited to participate and put forth their ideas. After all, I think the thread readers have a wealth of experience, competence and understanding of the market. I am hoping that by everyone participating with their ideas on how to select stocks that are going to appreciate considerably in the near future(1 to 3 months), we can all benefit and be better off financially than we could by working alone. After all, that's what these threads should be all about IMO, contributors put forth their insights to the Group so that in the end, we are all better off.
What got me thinking a lot about stock performance during the past few weeks has been the performance of NSM since its close at 20.76 on Wednesday, 7/30. Last Friday, it closed at 35.90 for a gain of 15.14 per share, or 73 percent. That gain was made in 7 and 1/2 weeks. Needless to say, the SOX has been really helped by this performance, and the individual investors who were in, or bought in on this day, are very happy - perhaps ecstatic? Speaking of the SOX, the table below shows the performance over the period from 7/30 to last Friday's close, 9/19.

Note that while all the stocks were up(even MU at 1 percent), NSM and AMD are the big winners - and for the moment and purposes of this discussion, let's forget about AMD - I think it falls in a "different" category of "winner" than I am trying to address.
As seen in the table, NSM presently has a PE of 25, "next year" earnings of 1.42, a long term growth rate of 15, and a PEG of 1.69. On 8/1, NSM had a closing price of 22.77, a PE of 21, "next year" earnings of 1.11, a long term growth rate of 15 and a PEG of 1.37. This can all be shown in a table as

OK - that's it - a snapshot of the news since 7/30.
My questions to the thread are.
1. Was anyone "keyed into" NSM prior to 7/30 and had indications that this stock was about to run?
2. Why has NSM done so well over its competitors over this time frame - is momentum simply the answer?
3. How can we all do a better job of identifying and jumping in early on stocks like NSM. We don't have to be there immediately because this gain has occurred over a 7+ week period, but the earlier it can be identified, the more appreciation can be obtained.
I haven't asked all the questions to be asked, even scratched the surface of this subject, but with all the tools available to us now on the Internet, I for one would like to find some NSM's early in the future and get in on the gains. Hopefully, working together, we can find a way to do that.
