Taking the things out of the museum setting and putting them back into private homes doesn't seem like a real tragedy to me.

When Peg and I attended Cal, we used to delight in checking out several of the wonderful, framed photos and paintings from the main library. They had hundreds of them on display at the start of each semester and you could take them home and pop them on the walls of your well-worn student apartment for the term.
